Bishop Ruperto Santos of Antipolo has been given an honorary doctorate in recognition of his “distinguished service” to the community.

Santos, who was former bishop of Balanga, was made an honorary Doctor of Education of the Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU).

The awarding was held during the BPSU commencement exercises at the Bataan People’s Center in the city of Balanga on October 2.

“I am so grateful to Bataan Peninsula State University for this honoris causa. This is also an honour to the Diocese of Balanga,” Santos said in his speech.

“This honoris causa is an immense and gracious encouragement for me to give my best and be ever faithful to my present Diocese of Antipolo.”

Santos served as bishop of Balanga for nearly 13 years until he was installed as the new shepherd of the Antipolo diocese in July 2023.

“Thank you so much for this gift and God’s grace. I pray and perform to be a blessing to all,” he also said.
